The CDCStore transient datastore is a proprietary memory mapped storage system managed by Connect CDC SQData's Relational Captures. While on zOS the Db2/z CaptureThose Captures can also be located on any platform, not just the platform hosting the source data. In most non-mainframe environments, database servers will be dedicated systems where third party products are not allowed to operate. The Capture/Publisher and therefore CDCStore can be located near either the source or target databases and on a commodity platform where processing and data storage costs may be lower. CDCStore of course supports full restart/recovery regardless of where the failure occurs, on the source database platform, the Engine platform or in CDCStore itself.

The second feature that differentiates CDCStore from some other publishing frameworks is support for multiple target Engines utilizing the same captured data without requiring its duplication. The ability to manage both transient and near term storage provides flexibility in configuration since target Engines need not operate on precisely the same schedule or at the same performance levels. Precisely however recommends a second Capture/Publisher when those schedules include large windows where managing a large amount of transient data is less effective than simply mining the source database log a second time.
