When working in a non-Mainframe (i.e. Linux, AIX, Windows, etc.) you may choose to use file extensions either as an alternative to the File Type directory structure or simply to facilitate launching an editor based on those extensions. When they are used, it is important to maintain consistent file extensions for the different types of parts.

The following table outlines the recommended file extensions in a Multiplatform environment.
